Nate Hagens’ recent interview of Professor Peter Ward, entitled “Oceans – What’s the Worst that Can Happen?”, serves as a good overview of mankind’s destruction of the marine biosphere and our road to extinction. The title is a rather rhetorical question because very bad things have happened, are already happening, and even worse things are unavoidable and on the horizon despite hopes that humans will run out of ways to extract the dirtiest and most inaccessible fossil fuel deposits. We have seen how inextricably linked economic growth is to rising fossil fuel consumption, no matter the mounting disasters happening before our eyes and the steady stream of dire warnings issued from the scientific community. The most current of such warnings came from the UN last month, and it states that escalating synergies between disasters, economic vulnerabilities and ecosystem failures are increasing the risk of a “global collapse” scenario. Such a catastrophic scenario appears all but inevitable. Constricting fossil fuel consumption is like squeezing a balloon. If one country stops consumption, another takes up the slack. For example, efforts to cripple Russia’s fossil fuel exports for their unwarranted invasion of Ukraine don’t appear to be very effective since China and India have simply stepped in and increased their purchases. Rising oil prices have also more than offset a decline in Russia’s export volumes. Perhaps an unintended consequence of those higher energy prices will be the ripple effect through the economy, making food unaffordable for large swaths of the globe and destabilizing governments.
Getting back to the Peter Ward interview, the professor states matter of factly, “Every time we get into a car, it’s putting more of those CO2 particles into the atmosphere. And if this isn’t collective suicide by Homo sapiens, I don’t know what is.” Unfortunately for us, humans have created an unsustainable civilization supporting billions of people while at the same time destroying the very foundation upon which that system is dependent. Humans are by far outperforming the carbon-spewing volcanoes of past mass extinctions. Nicholas Money, renowned mycologist and author of many books, recently wrote:
Decades ago, Gerald Durrell, the famous conservationist, recognized that “the human race is in the position of a man sawing off the tree branch he is sitting on.” Thirty years after Durrell’s death, the human population has increased by 2 billion and the damage has intensified. The branch will snap now whether we keep sawing or not.
The timeline for extinctions is not known, but, sooner or later, the disappearing mammals will be joined by the other groups of animals. Almost everything will be leaving the metaphorical ark, creeping down the gangplank into oblivion. Millions of other species, seen and unseen, including plants, seaweeds, and fungi will be leaving, too. The tiniest of organisms will inherit the planet, but great gulps of the microbial world will also disappear in the depths of this planetary holocaust…
Exact dates are not known, but mankind’s final fate can be seen scrawled upon the familiar checklist for mass extinctions which we are quickly ticking off, one by one. As Ward points out, every time there has been a major disruption in Earth’s delicate biogeochemical carbon cycle, there has been a mass extinction. Today that disruption is happening on a timescale much faster than at any time in the past, even faster than the asteroid impact that killed off the dinosaurs. During the K-T extinction, the immediate impact of the asteroid killed only the large animals. It took thousands of years for the consequent climate change to kill off smaller organisms. Current trends are exponentially faster, not only with anthropogenic climate disruption incinerating the biosphere within a lifetime but also by a multi-pronged attack from other human activities such as chemical and plastic pollution, the global spread of invasive species, and humanity’s massive overdraw on the planet’s resources.
If one were to equate Earth’s geologic history to a calendar year, modern humans have been around for a mere 37 minutes while managing to consume 1/3rd of Earth’s natural resources in just the last 0.2 seconds. The biomass of wild mammals has fallen by 83% since prehistory and it is projected that by 2050 humans will have eliminated 38–46% of all biodiversity from the planet. 70% of the planet’s land area has been altered by humans, with 40% considered degraded. By 2050, an area of land the size of South America will be further degraded. Nearly all of the marine biosphere has been degraded. Now Modern man has set his sights on wringing the last dollar of profit from the already dying oceans in what is being heralded as the “Blue Acceleration”, a not-so-clever play of words on the Great Acceleration referring to the period starting around 1950 when measurements of humanity’s impact on the planet’s resources went hyperbolic:
As pressures on Earth’s land grow and terrestrial resources look increasingly exhausted, governments and corporations are seeing the next big wins on, in and under the high seas. Whether it is mineral exploration, shipping, energy, tourism, desalination, cable laying, bioprospecting or more, ocean-based industries are picking up speed fast.
This “blue acceleration” has many people worried…With the power to profit from remote ocean resources growing rapidly, and the laws that govern their exploitation less than clear, we risk a free-for-all in the deep. “Our society has been based on the degradation of nature, destruction of nature,” says marine ecologist Enric Sala…
The new plunge into the ocean has come about in part because technologies – from ocean drilling and offshore wind turbines to desalination plants and factory trawlers – have made it possible. “A lot of offshore industries were unthinkable even just a few decades ago,” says Jouffray.
And so it goes, Homo sapiens onward march of eating the seed corn and leaving a husk of a planet for future generations …if there are to be any.
Back to Peter Ward and that checklist for mass extinction…The second step after a large release of heat trapping gasses is that Earth’s poles will start warming up much faster than the rest of the globe, melting the polar icecaps and reducing the heat differential between the equator and higher latitudes. A recent study found that the Arctic is heating up as much as seven times faster than the global average. The Antarctic is warming four times faster than the global average. This diminishing heat differential between the higher latitudes and the equator leads to the third step which is that ocean currents and atmospheric jet streams slow down and become stagnant and swampish. As professor Ward points out, swamps have a lot of nasty, toxic aspects to them such as hydrogen sulfide. This has happened to the oceans many times in Earth’s history with deadly consequences, the most recent being the PETM extinction which was associated with the largest deep-sea mass extinction event in the last 93 million years. Less than 5% of sea creatures survived. The oceans became a poisonous and miasmic brew of acidification, hypoxia and sulfide gases. Deep ocean upwellings injected hydrogen sulfide into the atmosphere, laying waste to plants and animals. This killer gas rose to the upper atmosphere and also attacked the ozone layer, allowing deadly ultraviolet radiation from the sun to amplify the destruction of plant and animal life. Fossil spores contained in strata from the PETM extinction show deformities consistent with damage from UV radiation. Major disruptions in the hydrologic cycle occurred with evidence of increased continental runoff. Land suffered extreme precipitation events. Dinoflagellates, tiny organisms that ooze toxins and create deadly algal blooms called ‘red tides’, flourished in the nearly 100°F surface water of the equator. Less than a third of the large animal species made it. Nearly all trees died. No ice existed on the planet during that time. Sea levels were around 300 feet higher than now.
Today we are pumping heat trapping gases into the atmosphere nine to tens times higher than during the PETM extinction. We are just four generations away from matching the chemical composition of the atmosphere that caused that die-off event. However, we are already seeing major changes in the Earth’s climate system that align with the third step toward a mass extinction. Proxy data (like coral data, ocean sediments, and land-based data) along with modern-day instrumentation show an intense weakening of the AMOC, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, in the past 200 years. And the Gulf Steam, a component of the AMOC, is also showing signs of collapse. We are in the process of turning off the global ocean conveyor belt that keeps the ocean oxygenated and helps regulate the Earth’s climate. Ocean acidity has increased about 30% from preindustrial times to the early 21st century, a pace faster than any known in Earth’s geologic past. The volume of anoxic ocean waters has quadrupled since the 1960s, and evidence suggests that temperature increases explain about 50% of oxygen loss in the upper 1000 meters of the ocean. Ocean stratification due to climate change has increased 18% in the top 150 meters of the oceans since 1960. Stratified ocean layers have a number of negative effects such as preventing the mixing and transport of heat, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and nutrients to the lower depths of the oceans. It was only recently, November 2021, that a group of scientists issued a plea to governments for establishing a global monitoring system to track the loss of oxygen in the oceans causing dead zones:
“There is a pressing need to document and predict hypoxic episodes and hotspots of low oxygen in order to take protective actions for aquaculture, put in place precautionary measures for affected fisheries, and monitor the wellbeing of important fish stocks,” Limburg said.
“Without this understanding, we are in the dark about impacts that have large economic-ecological implications.”…
“These problems are getting worse because we are not solving the problems of nutrient run-off and our waters are continuing to warm.
Stalled Rossby waves in the Jet Stream linked to extreme weather events have increased significantly in the last twenty years. U.S. crop losses due to drought and flooding have trippled since 1995. Onward we march into oblivion.
Despite the horrors described thus far, what really scares Professor Ward is sea level rise. Ward believes that the volcano of mankind will sputter out before we reach the levels required for a full-fledged Canfield Ocean, and negative feedback loops in the climate system will pull Earth back from the brink. The “Canfield Ocean”, a sulfidic and partially oxic ocean, existed for more than 40% of Earth history, between the Archean and Ediacaran periods. It would take millennia to reach that state again, but humans are supercharging the process to get there by releasing into the ocean vast quantities of nutrients from agricultural fertilizer, soil erosion, industrial waste and sewage, in addition to the ever-growing release of CO2 and methane emissions. Humans have become a geologic force breaching most if not all of the planetary boundaries that make Earth hospitable for life. The mechanisms required for Earth to return to a dead, toxic planet may have already been irreversibly set into motion.
Getting back to Ward’s fear, the most recent report on sea level rise states that it is accelerating with an increase of one foot expected along U.S. coasts by 2050. And that is only if emissions are curbed now. Otherwise, expect up to 5 feet. The researchers say that one foot of SLR over the next three decades is equal to the total that occurred over the past century. Just one foot of vertical rise in sea level will swallow up 100 feet of shoreline if the slope is just 1% or more, a typical slope for most coastlines. To make matters worse, most coastal cities are sinking at a rate faster than the seas are rising. Thus within the next few decades, we could see several hundred feet of shoreline swallowed up along coasts of America and around the world, creating the largest human migration in history. Ward believes we’ll have six feet of sea level rise by 2080 which will destroy a big percentage of the world’s rice production, primarily through salinization. Rice is the number one food source for a majority of the world population today. Sea level rise alone could devastate global trade, not to mention the inevitable damage to ports from stronger storms. The latest IPCC report made it clear that parts of the planet are fast becoming uninhabitable:
Life in some locations on the planet is rapidly reaching the point where it will be too hot for the species that live there to survive, international climate experts said in a report Monday.
“With climate change, some parts of the planet will become uninhabitable,” said German scientist Hans-Otto Pörtner, co-chair of Working Group II for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which produced the report released in Berlin…
…Increased heat waves, droughts and floods are already exceeding plants’ and animals’ tolerance thresholds, driving mass mortalities in species such as trees and corals, according to the report…
…Sherilee Harper, a lead author on the North American chapter and an associate professor at the University of Alberta’s public health school, said she was personally struck by the effect climate change already is having on the “physical and mental health of many Americans.”
Peter Ward then brings up something I don’t remember hearing about global warming. The higher temperatures are disrupting the sperm fertility of organisms. Ward says it’s an existential threat to the amount of food we can produce. Recent studies show this to be true and the damage continues across generations:
…according to new research. New findings reveal that heatwaves damage sperm in insects – with negative impacts for fertility across generations. The research team say that male infertility during heatwaves could help to explain why climate change is having such an impact on species populations, including climate-related extinctions in recent years.
Nate and Peter then get into the societal ignorance preventing humans from addressing any serious problem, let alone the existential threat of anthropogenic climate disruption. Peter says, “How could we, as a species, take something as simple as masks and turn it into a political ploy where the level of ignorance will kill you, will kill you?!?” Nate then explains how social media algorithms are set up to highlight the most polarizing content in order to generate more user activity since their business model is based on user engagement. In order to keep users online, the social media platforms are also designed to be very addictive such as with the infinite scroll feature and the “like” button.
In 2017, Facebook’s former president, Sean Parker, said publicly that the company sought to consume users’ time as much as possible, and that the act was “exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology”…”That means that we needed to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever… It’s a social validation feedback loop… You’re exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology…” – link
There is no fixing this dysfunctional social media ecosystem because it is operating exactly as intended. Our profit-driven economic system is rooted in inequality, exploitation, dispossession, and environmental destruction. And encouraging the public to turn off the horror show of climate chaos and biodiversity annihilation are essential for this system to continue. Exploiting tribal biases is a good way to keep the plebs fighting amongst themselves as the last dollar is extracted from a dying planet. Nate asks, “If we can’t have a discussion on what’s real or not with COVID, how are we going to have one about the ocean’s ecosystems and Earth systems and our collective future?” Indeed.
I am loving this.
‘Aim higher, act faster, or risk losing it all’ – Too late, assholes!
“We must focus on the fact that predictions are now becoming observations,” Professor Hughes added. Shit’s hit the fan.

The vast majority of “scientists” and “professionals” make ridiculous statements, like “how technology will fix all of humanity’s problems”, “humans are too adaptive and clever to ever go extinct” , etc. I don’t take the vast majority of scientists seriously because they are just there to promote the status quo. They pretend (or are ignorant) of the impending and imminent demise of industrial civilization and Homo Sapiens, because they believe in the bullshit of human “exceptionalism”, the myth of technological “progress”, religious dogma, etc. These scientists are not reliable sources of knowledge, because if they were, they would be telling us the 100% truth that “humanity is a rapacious disease and cancer on this planet. Humanity’s presence on Earth is completely unsustainable. And we are going to go extinct in the relatively near future from overpopopulation, resource depletion, environmental degradation and a plethora of other factors caused by humanity’s greed and hubris”. Instead, they tell us that “non-stop economic growth and technological “progress” will continue indefinitely into the future. And that life for humans is constantly “improving” thanks to technological “progress” and free market capitalism.” What a bunch of bullshit. Yet, these scientists and professionals keep on telling us these bullshit lies, and they get paid millions of dollars every year for lying to the public. I hope their delusions of anthropocentrism gets completely shattered by near-term human extinction when it happens.

Here is a fun fact for you guys to enjoy. Under capitalism, the people/corporations, that actually produce goods and services, struggle to make any revenue/profits–at all. For example, game studios that produce video game software–like Ubisoft and EA Games–almost always struggle to make any signfiiciant revenue…let alone, make any profits, in either the short-term or long-term. The only people/corporations, that can make any significiant revenues/profits, are those that control the sales/distribution of goods and services. Like Walmart, Amazon, Costco and Valve Corporation. Only a handful of large-scale retailers/sellers of goods/services can make any significiant revenues/profits. And many large-scale retailers–like Hudson Bay and Sears–are already going bankrupt from lack of sales/lack of revenue/negative profitability. The game of capitalism is so incredibly rigged and unfair–for many other reasons–yet the vast majority of people don’t protest about it at all. For some strange reason.

Ironically, the best time to be alive (for a human being) was probably during the era of feudalism. While society was already socially stratifed at that time, at least the poor/commoners/serfs still had some access to free natural resources i.e. the commons haven’t been privitized yet. People, during feudalism, had more leisure time and free-time and worked fewer hours, than the wageslave under capitalism. They (serfs) also had good-quality community and family life, rather than the dog-eat-dog individualism of capitalism. The only downside to feudalism was that they didn’t have access to modern technologies (like the Internet and computers), but I would argue that life for a feudal serf was much better that of a factory, wageslave in the developing countries of today.

I just realized that maybe…just maybe, the root of the problem isn’t overpopulation? Maybe the root of the problem is that humanity is a fundamentally unsustainable species? Of course, even a small population of humans is bad for the planet…let alone, 8,000,000,000 + people on this planet. Like I said before, NTHE is simply the inevitable consequence of humanity’s fundamental unsustainability and inability to live harmoniously on this planet. The overpopulation problem might just a symptom of humanity’s fundamental unsustainability and the inevitability of human population shoot, crash, die off and extinction.

As oil production went up, so did food production. As food production went up, so did the population. As the population went up, the demand for food went up, which increased the demand for oil. Put simply, the end of cheap oil means end of oil-powered agriculture, which means the end of cheap food which means the end of billions of lives. “”

Sorry to tell you, but it is too much late to do anything to mitigate–let alone prevent–complete collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE. The only thing that could potentially prevent the complete extinction of humanity was deindustrialization starting several decades ago. Instead, even today, we have BAU continuing under the false pretense that “smart” growth, “renewable” energies and AI technology will supposedly keep BAU (aka the myth of technological “progress”) in place forever. Of course, not even deindustrialization will not save us…because even if deindustrialization could happen, it would not fix the root of the problem…which is that humanity is now 100% dependent on agriculture…because our global population is much too large to be sustainably supported via hunting and gathering. Global agriculture was doomed to fail eventually…and fossil fuels simply delayed its failure by a couple of decades, while extending human population growth for a bit longer until NTHE becomes unavoidable. And it is already unavoidable at this point.

Human extinction is not happening because of lack of human ingenuity. Nor is it happening because of lack of people reproducing. It is happening because humans are just clever enough to invent technologies to exploit an abundant (but ultimately finite and nonrenewable) resource reserves to expand their population to an absolutely overwhelming number. And then, when the resources are completely exhausted, the global human population crashes in a mass, Malthusian die-off leading to human extinction. The fact that the governments are vehemently denying peak oil (and resource depletion in general) is more than sufficient proof that there is nothing that can replace fossil fuels and the plethora of other nonrenewable and finite resources exploited by human beings. And that industrial civilization (and humanity in general) is living off of burrowed time that is rapidly running out. The human BREEDERS are the primary problem. And their offspring (and possibly the parents, too) will eventually realize that they are gonna go extinct from human overpopulation when collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE does finally happen.

And the vast majority of dumbfucks still deny that humans are animals, and continue to believe in that religious dogma nonsense about humanity’s divine right to plunder and destroy the natural world. There is no salvation for humanity because of its false belief of being seperate from and above the natural world. The belief in the techno-fix–aka new technologies–coming to prevent collapse of industrial civilization is still believed by the masses. There is a massive denial of the reality of CoIC/NTHE, because it is still widely (and falsely) believed that humanity is too clever and adaptive to go extinct. This denial of the near-term extinction of mankind is ubiquitious because of cultural programming and willful ignorance. Doesn’t matter to me because NTHE will happen sooner or later. There is no hope for humanity preventing itself from going extinct.

But not acting as a world hegemon while blatantly and falsely accusing the Russians and Chinese of doing that would have been easy for the US leadership to do. The leadership of the US and their leadership allies in western governments completely lost their grip on reality a long time ago. And they corrupted their respective populations, in some western countries perhaps somewhat less than others. I suspect that at a maximum only 2 or 3% of the US population is sane at this point.
Being as I am one of that 2 or 3% I would like to see a global nuclear war right now, if that were possible, which unfortunately due to secret US technology it is not, than allow the leadership of the United States one more minute of time to be able to corrupt more of the young American people.

Contrary to popular belief, modern technology has not made humanity less vulnerable to famine. In fact, we are much, much more vulnerable to global famine than previous civilizations. The fact that there are now over 8,000,000,000 people on this planet that are all absolutely dependent on fossil-fuel powered supply chains for all necessities (especially that of food and water) makes NTHE, more or less, an inevitability.
According to certain doomers, the only sustainable life-style is one that is dependent on local resources obtainable within walking distance aka localization. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing in modern industrial civilization that is remotely “local” or “sustainable”. Literally, every aspect of industrial civilization is dependent on globe-spanning, supply chains powered by fossil fuels, extracting other finite and nonrenewable resources at an insanely-fast rate. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to prevent NTHE when the global supply chains permanently collapse in the relatively near future (due to resource depletion and a plethora of other factors). This might explain why the governments of the world are spending so much effort denying the reality of collapse of industrial civilization…because if there was a “solution” for preventing NTHE, it would be implemented right now. The fact that there is absolutely no solution to prevent NTHE, especially when there is 8,000,000,000+ people on this planet, is probably why absolutely nothing is being done to save humanity. And it might also explain why there is a systematic effort to suppress the reality of CoIC/NTHE.

I am shocked at the level of willful ignorance by most people. Really, the evidence for NTHE is overwhelming. Anyone, thinking that NTHE won’t happen, is probably scientifically illiterate or has no idea how really DEPENDENT industrial civilization is of fossil fuels. There is not a chance that any alternatives to fossil fuels actually exist…there is no viable alternative(s) to fossil fuels to prevent NTHE from happening, let alone continue BAU indefinitely into the future. Btw, when BAU finally comes to an abrupt and catastrophic end, that means that NTHE has finally arrived. So basically, saying that BAU is unsustainable (and will eventually end) is syonymous to saying that NTHE is inevitable, when you realize that there is literally no alternative to BAU. There is almost no chance in hell that humans can revert back to simpler times after the collapse of industrial civilization. Especially when you realize that Homo sapiens is a fundamentally unsustainable species. Fossil fuels/industrialization is not the root of the environmental problems. The root of the problems is agriculture–or the fundamental unsustainability of agriculture. When you recognize this reality, then you realize the inevitability of NTHE.

I am shocked that (almost) nobody mentions that capitalism originates from the practice of usury, which is the requirement of the burrower of money to pay back MORE money than the amount of money initially burrowed. To the lender of money, of course. In the form of interest payments. Whenever someone mentions this reality, people incorrectly label you an “anti-Semite”. No, this is not anti-Semitism. This is the 100% truth. The economists, aka the status quo preservers, deny this reality of usury, and pretend that capitalism is some “natural order of the world that optimizes the distribution of resources, and maximizes the happiness of society/environment” or some other such nonsense.
The cold-hard reality is that our economic system is an intentional pyramid-scheme that requires the burrower of money to pay back more money than the amount of money burrowed. Thus, requiring perpeutal economic “growth” to prevent complete economic collapse. This pyramid scheme seems unstoppable when the extraction of finite and nonrenewable resources is growing. But when resource extraction enters permanent decline (as is in the case of “peak oil” and the “peak everything” crisis)–due to resource depletion, this pyramid scheme can no longer grow. And hence the price of goods (especially that of food) skyrockets with ZERO MEANS to increase the income of the masses. Thus, people increasingly lose the ability to afford an adequate supply of goods (especially of food) when the economy starts to permanently contract/resources dwindle away for good. When the economy starts to enter permanent contraction, not only does the price of goods skyrocket, but unemployment also skyrockets. So the number of people being unable to afford access to ANY essential goods (like food. water, and shelter) also skyrockets. Thus, leading eventually to catastrophic social strife. And I can assure you that the global economy is already starting to permanently contract (due to resource depletion). And that catastrophic social strife will soon happen (if it isn’t already happening).

Not sure if anyone mentioned this here yet, but global famine will make food production/distribution extremely profitable. Resource depletion and scarcity/peak oil is lowering food production, while human population continues to rapidly grow? That means the price of food must logically go up, since human population growth means increased demand for food. Even though food production is going down, the demand for food keeps on going up (thanks to the 200,000 + new people added to this planet each and everyday). Thus, the law of supply and demand dictates that food prices MUST GO UP. Also, as food prices go up, people have less money to spend on non-food items (like computers, television and automobiles). Hence, people producing/distributing non-food items will lose revenues. So during a time of global famine, smart investors are now investing in food production/distribution. Since food is the one industrial product that people need the most badly.

You know that, contrary to popular belief, the Soviet Union, China and North Korea are not socialist countries? They are actually state capitalist countries–with the government having direct control over privately-owned and for-profit industries. Government control of industries is NOT socialism when those said industries are still privately-owned, for-profit and have top-down control of the means of production. That is just capitalism, but with more government-intervention in the economy. The only difference between the Soviet Union/state capitalism and so-called “free market” capitalism is that the latter has less government oversight over the market economy. If you think that North Korea is actually a socialist country, then how come there are extremely wealthy people living there? Obviously, from capitalist industries extracting profit, that is why. “Socialism” is just Orwellian doublespeak. There are no truly socialist industrial countries in the world. China is about as “socialist” as the USA is a “democracy”. “Socialism” and “democracy” are both myths. In reality, it is really just capitalist, totalitarian governments masquerding under the guise of “socialism” and “democracy”.

I am 100% convinced that industrial civilization is literally no different from a dystopian, science-fiction fantasy, except it is 100% real in the 21st century. How did this dystopia become a reality? One of the primary reasons might be the fact that humans eventually discovered how to extract and exploit the exceptionally-powerful and versatile energy from fossil fuels. Remember, that technology requires energy to exploit. This following quote explains exactly how important fossil fuels are for industrial civilization:
“”The cost of energy limited the growth of technology until fossil fuels came into use, a little less than three hundred years ago. Fossil fuels contain so much energy that they provide a remarkable return on investment even when used inefficiently. When coal is burned to drive dynamos, for example, only 35% of its energy ultimately becomes electricity (Ross & Steinmeyer, 1990, p. 89). Nevertheless, an amount of electricity equal to the energy used by a person who works all day, burning up 1,000 calories worth of food, can be bought for less than ten cents (Loftness, 1984, p. 2). 3
The abundant, cheap energy provided by fossil fuels has made it possible for humans to exploit a staggering variety of resources, effectively expanding their resource base. In particular, the development of mechanized agriculture has allowed relatively few farmers to work vast tracts of land, producing an abundance of food and making possible a wild growth of population.””

Literally, everyone on this planet is dependent on global supply chains for survival. So whoever controls the global supply chains could exterminate entire countries of their human populations just denying people access to the resources from the global supply chains. There is too many people in Africa, and no more useful resources to extract from it? Just cut off the supply chains to Africa, and everyone on it quickly dies. This plan to exterminate the human population might become an option for whoever is in control of the world simply to stave off complete collapse/NTHE for a few extra years.

Like I already said before, the collapse will likely be very sudden and abrupt…seemingly without any prior warnings. I suspect that there will be massive “development” before NTHE does finally happen aka a lot of buildings will be constructed, very quickly just to profit off of the last remaining resources of the planet Earth. Regardless of when NTHE will happen, it is very obvious that it isn’t too far away. And it is also extremely obvious that there is nothing that can replace fossil fuels. Industrial civilization is obviously living off of burrowed time that is rapidly running out. Btw, I don’t think NTHE will happen in 2026 or 2030 (or some specific date) in the relatively near future. Because it probably won’t happen by 2026 or 2030. Of course, the elites will deny that NTHE will happen. Everyone will deny it, probably even when NTHE does finally happen. Regardless, humans will soon get exactly what they deserve. This species doesn’t deserve anything but extinction for its greed and hubris. There is no hope for a species that believes itself seperate from and above the natural world. The deniers will keep on denying NTHE until there is literally no more humans left on this planet. I suspect the last person on Earth will probably continue to deny NTHE. And the human species will probably go extinct without even knowing it.

There isn’t a single, mass-manufactured object in our civilization that isn’t directly (or indirectly) dependent on fossil fuels. Literally, every single object in our civilization is a by-product of fossil fuels. We literally cannot manufacture or distribute anything without fossil fuels. Can you find anything in our civilization that isn’t dependent on fossil fuels? Absolutely not. About 99% of products in our civilization is made directly out of petrochemicals aka chemical derived from fossil fuels. Like plastics, paints, asphalt and the thousands of other industrial chemicals. And the changes needed to prevent NTHE need to come from the elites. It cannot come from the masses, who are completely misinformed and unable to make any radical changes. By 2030, global oil extraction is projected to drop down to as little as 35 million barrels per day (MBPD). Down from 95 MBPD of the all-time peak in 2019. Imagine the catastrophic effects that will have on the global economy. Global oil extraction has already entered permanent decline, which might explain why the price of food is skyrocketing. Remember, global agriculture is completely dependent on fossil fuels for the production and distribution of food. About 15% to 20% of global oil consumption is used in the manufacturing and distribution of food. As global oil extraction continues its perpeutal decline, there is less energy available for food production and distribution. Not to mention the depletion of other finite and nonrenewable resources that are absolutely essential for food production (like the phosphorus and potassium minerals used in creating fertilizer for growing food). Catastrophic, civilization-ending, human extinction-inducing famine is probably no more than 5 to 10 years away…perhaps as little as 2 to 3 years away.

During the past 20 to 30 years, the only real “improvements” in technology was that computers and consumer electronics were made a bit faster, smaller and more compact. Back in 1995, they still had fatscreen televisions, monitors and computers. Fast forward to 2005, and they started making computer monitors and televisions with thinner screens. And by the early and mid 2010s, they largely replaced the fatscreen computer monitors and televisions with thinner-screen computer monitors and televisions. Fast forward to the late 2010s and today (in 2023), and now they have flatscreen televisions with increased Internet connectivity . The only real “breakthrough” (since 2005) was the invention and profileration of “smart”phones. But smartphone technology has barely improved at all in the past 10 years. A smartphone from the early 2010s had basically the same features as ones made in 2023…except now the screens of smartphones are slightly bigger (on average) than the ones made 10 to 15 years ago. Really, all of this technological “progress” is pointless because it solves none of the fundamental problems…that is, our civilization is too overpopulated by human beings, and that there is a lack of any viable alternatives to fossil fuels, which are rapidly running out.

I recently read a book written by Guy McPherson called Going Dark, and he points out the four main causes of near term human extinction…
1) Global Climate Change (caused by fossil fuel burning and other human industrial activities) is altering the Earth’s climate in such a profound way that it will render global agriculture untenable in the relatively near future…thus leading to food shortages and catastrophic global famine. The wildfires, tornados, flash flood, hurricanes and other weather disasters caused by AGW are relatively “minor” disasters compared to the inevitable global famine resulting from AGW. Especially in a world that is severely overpopulated by 8,000,000,000+ human beings
2) Environmental collapse and the extinction of wild animals and other non-domesticated species. The disappeance of the natural world caused by human activities is well-documented. Humans have already exterminated the overwhelming majority of wild life (i.e wild animals and plants) on this planet. And we have managed to replace wild life with human beings, our livestock, our cities, our crops, our farms, our mines and other aspects of human civilization. When industrial civilization does inevitably collapse in the relatively near future, we cannot revert back to simplier times i.e. hunting and gathering or substinence agriculture because the wild ecosystems, top soil and other natural resources necessary for sustaining even a tiny fraction of our enormous human population size is already completely ruined and gone. Therefore, we, most likely, get NTHE after civilization catastrophically and abruptly collapses.
3) Nuclear meltdown from the 450+ nuclear plants around the world. When industrial civilization does collapse for the good, the global electrical grids will collapse. Thus, making it impossible to safely decommission the 450+ nuclear power plants around the world in time. We should already be decommissioning the nuclear power plants already in operation. Unfortunately, humans are encouraging the construction of even more nuclear power plants…and the ones still in operation will definitely not be shut down…until civilization does finally end for good. And then all of the nuclear power plants will self-denotate releasing deadly clouds of nuclear radiation across the planet Earth. Thus, killing every living organism (including human beings) that happens to come in contact with this nuclear radiation. Anyone, who doesn’t die from famine, social strife or disease (from the collapse of industrial civilization), will most likely die from the lethal mutations caused by exposure to the global spread of nuclear radiation.
4) And the worse news of all…PEAK OIL. Fossil fuels (especially petroleum) is absolutely essential for maintaining industrial civilization. Global oil extraction has already reached its all time peak in 2019. We have already entered the downwards slope of global oil extraction. Why is fossil fuel depletion such a big deal? Because literally every aspect of industrial civilization is directly or indirectly dependent on fossil fuels. Especially food production and distribution. The production and distribution of the seeds used in global industrial agriculture is dependent on fossil fuels. When fossil fuel extraction drops too low to maintain the global supply chains, then industrial civilization catastrophically and abruptly collapses…and that by itself is enough to cause NTHE. And the only “solution” to the climate change crisis is to completely stop burning fossil fuels. And therefore completely shut down industrial civilization. But even that wouldn’t fix the climate change problem because prior greenhouse gas emissions have already completely wrecked havoc on the Earth’s climate for next couple of centuries or millenias, even if GHG emissions completely stop ASAP. But shutting down industrial civilization means NTHE will still happen just from the collapse of the global supply chains.

There is obviously limits to how much food can be grown on any acre of land. And no amount of technology can prevent the upcoming human population crash. The idea of “sustainable” agriculture is an oxymoron. Large scale agriculture inevitably degrades the land and destroys ecosystems..as for ecological destruction, there is very little (if anymore) ecosystems left for humans to destroy in 2023. Yet the vast majority of people do not see the upcoming cliff ahead…following the biological imperative to breed as many humans as possible. With no regard to the consequences of overpopulation. The planet’s biosphere has already been completely destroyed by agriculture and human civilization, and mankind’s extinction is probably not too far away.

The people denying overpopulation and collapse of industrial civilization probably have no idea how unsustainable agriculture is, and how REALLY dependent industrial civilization is of fossil fuels. Agriculture is inheritantly unsustainable because it inevitably degrades the land, soil and other resources necessary for sustaining civilization. Agriculture completely destroys ecosystems. And there isn’t much more ecosystems for human civilization/agriculture to destroy. Plus, modern agriculture is completely dependent on fossil fuels. When the global supply chains do permanently collapse, even the production and distribution of seeds for global agriculture will completely stop…let alone growing and distributing the food to the 8,000,000,000+ people on this planet. This will likely result in NTHE.

Here is an interesting article about corn agriculture on Wikipedia.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maize
“””In 2016, maize production was forecast to be over 380 million metric tons (15 billion bushels), an increase of 11% over 2014 American production.[127] Based on conditions as of August 2016, the expected yield would be the highest ever for the United States.[127] The area of harvested maize was forecast to be 35 million hectares (87 million acres), an increase of 7% over 2015.[127] Maize is especially popular in Midwestern states such as Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois; in the latter, it was named the state’s official grain in 2017.[128]
The estimated corn usage for crop year September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021, was 38.7 percent was used for feed, 34 percent for ethanol, 17.5 percent for export, and 9.8 percent for food.[129]”””
LoL most of the corn the USA grows is used for feeding livestock and producing ethanol for automobiles…sounds like a fucking inefficient way to use the planet’s finite resources for feeding 8,000,000,000 + people

I looked up some articles on Wikipedia about global crop yields. And I just realized today that maybe…just maybe, the reason there are so many starving and malnourished people in the world is because of overpopulation. I used to have denial of overpopulation…until I realized that there simply isn’t enough food being produced to feed our enormous global human population. Most importantly, there is no way we can produce enough food to feed our global human population…especially with peak oil/resource depletion and abrupt climate change happening right now.

Do you want more proof that the governments are lying to the masses by denying overpopulation? Wikipedia claims that there was 11 billion tons of food produced around the world in 2020. But if you look at the actual crop yields of the top-yielding crops around the world (i.e wheat, corn, rice, and sugar), the actual global crop yields (for all crops and food production in general) is no more than 4 to 5 billion tons (at best) in 2020. And the other crops (like fruits and vegetables) and agricultural products (like meat, dairy and sea food) amount to no more than 500 million tons of food at best. So in 2020, we produced AT BEST 5 billion tons of food. That might sound like alot of food, but you got to keep in mind that the average adult human being consumes about 3 to 4 pounds of food per day (to maintain 1500 to 2000 calories of food consumption per day). Multiply that by 365 days in a year. And that equals to about 1200 to 1500 lbs of food consumed per year by a single adult human being. Each adult, in other words, consumes at least half a ton of food per year. Multiply that by 8,000,000,000 people, and you get (at least) 4 billion tons of food consumed per year by the global human population. And humanity only produced 4 to 5 billion tons of food around the globe AT BEST in 2020…and now peak oil/resource depletion, abrupt climate change and a plethora of other factors will undoubtly dramatically reduce global crop yields very soon (if it isn’t already). And then, it becomes obvious that global famine, in the relatively near future, is an inevitability. Even at the very peak of global agricultural production, we can produce BARELY enough food for the global human population. The fact that food prices are skyrocketing around the globe right now is probably a sign that we are rapidly running out of the ability to produce and distribute adequeate food supplies to the global human population.

If a certain item gets sold out and new copies arrive, you can be almost certain that the newer copies will cost a helluva lot more than the prior shipments.

Like I said before, global oil extraction peaked at an all-time high of 95 million barrels per day (mbpd) in 2018/2019. In 2023, global oil extraction has already dropped down to 80 mbpd. And runaway stagflation is already happening as a result…the price of most goods is already skyrocketing as a result of peak oil, especially that of food. By 2030, global oil extraction is projected to drop down to a measely 40 mbpd…that is only 1/2 of the current levels. Imagine the catastrophic effects that will have on the global economy? Oil is used directly or indirectly in every aspect of industrial civilization. As oil extraction continues its perpeutal decline, the price of food will continue to skyrocket. And the global economy will continue to be destabilized. Complete global economic collapse will probably happen before 2030 as a result of peak oil (and a plethora of other factors).

People don’t think about how our set of living arrangements depends on energy received from fossil fuels. Those that want a manicured lawn, golf courses, or anyplace that takes fuel to maintain can always buy a sling blade, loping shears, hedge trimmers & axes. I’m looking for the time when people will have to preform manual labor to impress their egos. No fuel will destroy their entitlement. I can’t find the ball in 2 feet tall grass on the green. As for how dependent industrial civilization and humans are of fossil fuels, there are countless examples. Without fossil fuels/industrialization, we can’t manufacture even the most simple items. Like an iron axe or knife. Or a graphite wooden pencil. Yes, we used to be able to manufacture certain technologies prior to the Industrial Revolution/fossil fuels, but the knowledge and skills necessary for manufacturing literally anything without fossil fuels/industrialization is already completely gone. When industrial civilization collapses, we wouldn’t be able to produce something as simple as an iron axe or knife for woodwork/ship building/etc. We certainly won’t be reverting back to horse-drawn carts or wooden/sail ships after industrial civilization collapses. It is very, very unlikely we can revert back to simpler times after industrial civilization collapses. Because the knowledge, skills and resources for a lower-tech society are already gone.

Btw, when the price of goods continues to increase (into the future), there would be no means of increasing people’s wages. During earlier times, it was possible to increase people’s wages because it was possible to increase people’s consumption of goods (by increasing the extraction of resources, of course). In the 2020s, resource extraction is permanently declining–due to resource depletion. So the price of goods goes up, without the ability to increase people’s wages. And the price of goods (especially that of food) will keep on going up, without any means of increasing people’s wages. Yet unemployment will keep on increasing, with wages remaining stagnant and prices continue going up. Yet, the average fucking moron (and also the elites running the world) still think that there is no end to human population and economic growth. When collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE happens, they will be in for a big surprise.

I remember reading this doomer article about how we live in a “world of permanent scarcity”. Really, that is 100% true. According to Wikipedia, we produced about nearly 100 million tons of beef around the world in 2020. Which may sound like alot. But it really isn’t that much when you do the math. 8,000,000,000+ people, and to satisify the average adult human’s nutritional needs requires (at least) half a ton of food per year. Multiply that by 8 billion people, and the global human population needs at least 4 billion tons of food per year. And then it becomes obvious that a 100 million tons of beef per year for the entire globe really isn’t that much. We might be able to produce 5 billion tons of food per year around the globe (at the peak of world food production. Who knows it might be less than that in 2023?), which is slightly in excess of the 8 billion people’s food demand, but the little excess food we grow each year is mostly used to fuel exponential human population growth…rather than alleviating world hunger.

Please, remember that industrial civilization burns way more tons of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) per year for our machines (i.e. automobiles, airplanes, factories and power plants) than it does for feeding the 8 billion humans on this planet. We burn well over 10 billion tons of fossil fuels per year to run industrial civilization’s machines compared to the measely 5 billion tons of food for feeding the humans on Earth. We expend (at least) 20 to 30 times more calories of energy from fossil fuels (for our machines) than the food energy that our 8 billion fragile, human bodies expend. We expend about 10 calories of fossil fuel energy for every calorie of food energy we consume in the industrialized world. Yet, we call ourselves “wise” LOL. Humanity is totally stupid IMO. There are many other examples of humanity’s sheer stupidity.

As for more doom and gloom, there is countless examples of how doomed industrial civilization really is. According to a book written in 2005, we had only around 20 to 30 years left of various precious metals–like silver, platinium and gold–back in 2005. These precious metals are absolutely essential for manufacturing computers, smartphones, televisions, wind turbines, solar panels and other electronic devices. If this is correct. we might have only 5 to 10 years before those precious metal reserves are completely depleted. This means that so-called “renewable” energies cannot prevent our doom. Because those renewable energy devices require such precious metals, which are rapidly running out. Nevermind the fact it is very unlikely that renewable energies can replace fossil fuels in the first place. It is not just “peak oil” that will cause the global supply chains to collapse in the relatively near future. It is the fact that we are rapidly running out of just about every other conceivable finite and nonrenewable resource necessary for sustaining industrial civilization–or any form of human civilization for that matter.

Btw technological progress is mostly a myth. Especially in the 21st century. You want proof of it? Just look at computer technologies. The computers in the 2020s aren’t actually any better than the ones made 20 to 30 years ago. The computers made today might be more compact and less bulky than the ones made several decades ago. But there is ONE MAJOR REASON for making them smaller and more compact. There simply isn’t enough raw materials left to make bulkier computers anymore…due to depletion of silicon and other precious metals used in computer manufacturing. So to cut costs, computers are made smaller and more compact. But the performance is not increased at all. In fact, the slimmer and more compact computers of today have an even shorter lifespan than older computers…2 to 3 years on average compared to the 5 to 10 years of older computers. So much for technological “progress” lol.

As for more proof of the upcoming global famine, humanity is already starting to lose its ability to grow sufficient amounts of food for the exponentially growing human population– in numerous ways. One obvious reason is soil erosion. I have worked at and visited numerous farms in Ontario, Canada. And I can tell you that soil erosion is now so severe that we need to import soil from remote areas of the world just to maintain current crop yields. In Southern Ontario, they import soil from Northern Ontario to maintain crop yields/compensate for soil erosion on existing crop fields. Two problems with this “solution”…first, you need to spend an enormous amount of finite/nonrenewable fossil fuel energy to mine and transport soil from remote regions of the world to the agricultural fields of the world. And also, the soil that we mine from remote regions are another finite and nonrenewable resource…which is also rapidly running out. Just like fossil fuels and almost everything else. Remember, we are losing (at least) 75,000,000,000 (75 billion) tons of top soil per year around the world. And we now need to mine and extract soil from remote areas of the world just to “replace” loss top soil in agricultural regions. But we are still losing top soil at a much faster rate than we can “replace” it. And the same goes for all other industrial activities. For example, to produce cement and concrete now requires mining (increasingly depleted) rocks from very, very remote regions of the world using rapidly-depleting fossil fuel energy. We don’t even have enough fossil fuel energy (and other finite and nonrenewable resources) to maintain our current infrastructure. Let alone rebuild it in a few decades from now. Keep in mind that when industrial civilization does collapse (in the relatively near future), we almost certainly won’t be able to revert back to a more “primitive” way of life i.e. with horse-drawn carts or wooden sail ships. Because the Earth’s resources are now so severely depleted and the world is now so overpopulated that NTHE seems like the only logic outcome. Which is probably what will happen.

Just FYI, a very large portion of China, India and Africa’s agriculture still relies on horse/oxen-powered machines. Rather than oil-powered mechanized agriculture. But don’t think that makes lower-tech, Third World countries any more sustainable than First World countries. Because the root of humanity’s problems is not fossil fuels/industrialization/global warming. The root of mankind’s problems is agriculture/civilization. Agriculture and civilization is what made overpopulation and social inequality possible in the first place. And even the most primitive Third World countries (like India and Africa) still rely on global supply chains/fossil fuels (for their basic needs) in 2023, even if their per capita fossil fuel consumption is less than that of “developed” countries (like Canada and the USA). Blaming “developed” countries (like the USA and Canada) for environmental degradation is misleading because it completely ignores the fact that developing countries are also rapidly destroying the natural world. I already posted numerous links (a few weeks ago) on this thread about how developing countries in Africa, India and China are destroying their environment via deforestation, mining, wild life poaching, agriculture and etc. Yet nobody in the mainstream media mentions how this environmental destruction might be caused by overpopulation.

Despite the invention and profileration of newer technologies–like computers, airplanes, and automobiles, 21st century industrial civilization is fundamentally no different from earlier versions of civilization–like ancient Egypt and ancient Rome. The fundamental problems of civilization–like overpopulation, environmental degradation, nonrenewable resource depletion, the extinction of non-domesticated species, soil erosion/top soil loss and social inequality–remain unsolved. In fact, newer technologies only accelerate the problems of earlier civilizations…while giving the masses the illusion of on-going technological “progress”. Newer technologies have only increased the convenience for certain priveleged people…like computers allowing for faster communication. Or they increased the speed and efficiency at which humans can extract finite and nonrenewable resources–like more powerful machines allowing faster extraction of mineral and metal ores. But these new technologies cannot fix civilization’s fundamental problems. On the contrary, when industrial civilization does inevitably collapse, we will probably get NTHE. There is only one “solution” for civilization’s and humanity’s problems…that is the collapse of industrial civilization and human extinction. Humanity is the PROBLEM of the world. And the only solution is NEAR TERM HUMAN EXTINCTION…which we are accelerating quickly towards. Humanity is a disease on this planet. And near term human extinction is the only cure for this disease. Industrial civilization is fundamentally unsustainable (for many reasons discussed ad nauseum on this site). One of the reasons why civilization is unsustainable is because we dependent on fossil-fuel powered global supply chains for literally everything/every aspect of industrial civilization. Especially for the production and distribution of food. Even suburban areas with relatively “low” population density are unsustainable because they also depend on global supply chains for literally everything. Even if we were to convert all of the lawns, backyards, parks and other areas in cities into urban agriculture, it couldn’t satisify even 2 to 3% of a city’s food requirements. And we are too stupid to even do that. Literally, everything that cities consume is imported from far away places. Even if you grow food in your backyard, the raw materials for your garden is imported from far away. There is literally no solution for sustaining 8 billion + people for much longer, so collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE is literally guranateed (sooner or later).

The common misconception of overpopulation is that people think that only third world countries with densely-packed human populations are overpopulated. They think that overpopulation is only a problem in densely-populated poor countries–like China, India and Bangladesh. They think that “low” population density countries like Canada and Australia are “underpopulated”. What these fools don’t realize is how REALLY dependent we are of fossil fuels for literally every aspect of industrial civilization. And how there is a lack of anything to replace fossil fuels. And how even “low” population density countries will also perish from near term human extinction when the global supply chains collapse (from “peak oil” and the “peak everything” crisis). Canada and Australia may seem “underpopulated” because of all of the “empty” space on their lands. But when you realize that even those countries depend on fossil fuels (and other finite and nonrenewable resources imported from far away places. All these resources which are rapidly running out), you realize that even low-population countries will not survive collapse of industrial civilization. And you also realize that even low-population density countries are actually extremely overpopulated…because even those countries cannot support even 1% of their population without fossil fuels and global supply chains. In fact, even rich, sparsely-populated countries will suffer from NTHE when industrial civilization collapses…in the not-too-distant future.

Just FYI, in case if you guys don’t understand how capitalism works, here is a brief explanation. You have factories (or companies) that produce a certain product i.e. computers or food. And then, those factories sell their products to retailers and merchants. And then, you have certain groups that extract tribute (in the form of taxes or rent) from the retailers or merchants that sell someone else’s products to the customers. The factories that produce products sell their products to retailers at a higher price than it cost to produce their products (to make a profit). And then the retailers sell their products at an even higher price than what it cost to buy their products from producers (to make yet more profit). But the customers have to pay an even higher price for the products they consume from retailers because the government and other third parties have to extract yet more money from retailers in the form of taxes or rent. It might cost a factory only 100 dollars to produce a smartphone. But they sell it to retailers for a higher price (let’s say 200 dollars) to make a profit. And the retailers and merchants sell the products to customers at even higher price (let’s say 400 dollars) to make yet more profit. But the customers have to pay an even higher price to finally purchase the product (let’s say 500 dollars) because the merchants and retailers have to pay yet more taxes and rent to the government and other third party agencies. So the final product might cost 500 dollars when it is finally sold to customers. The government and corporations extract enormous amounts of profit off of selling products at over-inflated prices to customers. This is obvious a scam, yet we call this “business” aka capitalism. And this scam requires infinite growth in consumption to prevent itself from completely collapsing. Of course, this scam aka global capitalism will collapse sooner or later when resource extraction continues to decline. Of course, this scam will collapse one day as the global economy continues to contract from peak oil and resource depletion in general.

Now, that this planet is rapidly running out of resources, we are supposedly planning on colonizing another planet to continue the growth of industrial civilization. Of course, colonizing another planet is just hopium. The reality is that humanity is facing near term extinction because there is no way we can colonize another planet after we have completely wrecked the planet Earth. Of course, the mainstream media does not ever say that we are running out resources. They pretend that there is an infinite amount of resources for humans to exploit on Earth. And colonizing another planet will be for the sake of spreading the “glory” of human civilization to other planets. Of course, we (intelligent people) know that is bullshit…the Earth’s finite and nonrenewable resources are rapidly running out. And humans will never ever colonize another planet. The “colonizing another planet” myth is just another part of the technological “progress” myth that most people believe in. Contrary to popular belief, human technological “progress” is not exponentially growing in the 21st century. Human population is still exponentially growing. And the resources on the Earth (for humans to exploit) are rapidly diminishing/running out. So we get NTHE as the end result. There has been very little “advancement” in technology in the 21st century, in actuality. The only technological “progress” humans made in the past 20 to 30 years is that we made computers (and other digital devices) a bit smaller and more compact. But this cannot do jack shit to save humanity from near term extinction.

I looked at several Atlas books aka map books of the world. And it became abundantly clear (to me) that “we live in a world of permanent (resource) scarcity”. The Earth isn’t really that big…yet there is an incredibly large population of human beings on this planet. Of course, I don’t deny that there is incredible socio-economic inequality between the rich and poor. But even if you were to more equally distribute the world’s wealth and resources amongst the human population, it is still incredibly obvious that there simply isn’t that much resources on this planet to begin with. Especially when there are now over 8,000,000,000 people consuming those said resources in 2023. No matter how you divide the world’s finite (and mostly) nonrenewable resources, there is simply too many people on Earth. And not nearly enough finite and (mostly) nonrenewable resources for the world’s enormous human population. We don’t have nearly enough resources to sustain the Earth’s absolutely, enormous human population for much longer. And in the not-too-distant future, the global human population will, most certainly, suffer from a massive crash/die-off. I say this crash and die-off is no more than 5 to 10 years away. Leading, very likely, to near-term human extinction. Anyone, denying overpopulation and its inevitable consequences, is simply stupid or delusional.

I am glad that I don’t have any offspring. And I feel bad for the adults that have biological offspring. Because any offspring (whether they are children or adults) are not only bad for the biosphere. But also bad for the life of anyone unfortunate enough to have children. I don’t envy people with kids. I feel bad for them because they have produced a horrible burden for themselves to bear. I won’t adopt children either. I am genuinely hoping for human extinction to happen. I really hate the human species. The sooner we go extinct, the better.

I heard several reports claiming the average life expectancy of millenials and people younger than that…aka anyone born after the 1980s is rapidly dropping due to poverty, chronic stress, drug addiction, sex/porn addiction, gambling addiction and a plethora of other factors. And these reports doesn’t even take into account that industrial civilization might suddenly and catastrophically collapse one day (in the not-too-distant future)…thus potentially shortening everyone’s life expectancy by an even greater extent. And it is obvious that the quality of life for (almost) everyone is rapidly dropping. It is not just a problem with Third World countries…the quality of life for everyone around the world is rapidly dropping in both the “developed” and “developing” countries.

Be careful not to leave any of your personal possessions (like a laptop, smartphone or portable video game console) unattended–for even a brief period of time–while in a public place (i.e at a public library, at work or on the bus) because it could very easily get stolen. In fact, I suggest you should minimize the amount of valuable stuff you bring outside to public places. Like keeping your laptop, smartphone or portable video game console at home at all times. And never bring it outside (in the first place) to prevent it from getting stolen. And also have a screen pasword for your digital devices (like smartphone, laptop or portable video game console), so that if it gets stolen (which is very likely these day), then nobody can access your personal files and accounts. Theft of valuable possessions is extremely common these days, so you should always be wary of thieves. To prevent or lower the risk of them stealing your stuff. Or making sure they cannot access your files or accounts if they manage to steal your stuff.

All my passwords are written down & I don’t store any on any device. I once lost a loaded, small tool box that was stolen from the back of my truck. Dumbasses should not leave things out that are easily stolen in public. Some dumbasses are quick learners. I haven’t lost anything again in 50 years. Really, we are just repeating the same things over and over again. The overwhelming evidence shows that NTHE will happen. For real. Global famine will certainly happen within the next 5 to 10 years. Perhaps within as little as the next 2 to 3 years. Perhaps it is happening RIGHT NOW. This global famine will be one of the primary triggers of collapse of industrial civilization. And there is NO WAY of preventing global, Malthusian famine (at this point) especially with a global human population of 8 billion + people.

Anyone saying that global human population is “declining” due to “low birth rates” is either stupid or delusional. When I attended elementary, middle school and high school in the 1990s and early 2000s, there was already a shortage of teachers and other educational resources in public schools. Even in a relatively wealthy country like Canada. I would imagine the problem being the same in the USA. In the 2010s and 2020s, the overabundance of students and lack of teachers/other educational resources is even much worse than when I attended school 15 to 20 years ago. There are hardly any new schools being built in cities, yet the number of students attending them is still skyrocketing. So classrooms are jammed packed with children and students. When I attended middle school and high school, I couldn’t even use a locker because there was already too many students and too few lockers. And I had a bunch of stuff stolen as a result. My classrooms in school were jammed packed with students. Remember, the schools I attended where built in the 1960s and 1970s when there was far fewer people on this planet. Now, there is over twice as many children/students attending schools. Yet the number of schools has barely grown since the 1960s/1970s, when an old folk (like TR), was still attending school. I visited a school a few years ago as a substitute teacher in the 2010s. And holy fucking shit, there were way too many fucking kids/students in schools. When I attended school several decades ago, schools were already overcrowded/overpopulated by students/kids. Now in 2020s, the situation is much, much worse. And don’t get me started about universities. I attended university 12 to 15 years ago. And it was already extremely overcrowded with young adult students. Now in 2020, the university campuses are even more overcrowded with students.

By 2030, global oil extraction is projected to drop down to a measely 40 million barrels per day (mbpd). That was the rate of global oil extraction back in 1970 (when global human population was less than 4 billion people). Yet, by 2030, there will be 8.5 billion people on Earth. Yet only enough fuel and food available for 4 billion people. Remember, global food production and distribution is directly tied to global oil extraction. When there is only 40 mbpd of oil extraction around the world by 2030, then food production/distribution will go down directly in proportion to the decline of oil extraction. The incredibly high price of food in 2023 is primarily due to peak oil. Global oil extraction is now down to 80 mbpd, which is now at what it was back in 2004/2005 when global human population was “only” 6.5 billion people. We now have over 8 billion people with access to the same amount of energy/resources available when there was only 6.5 billion people. The primary problem is obvious…too many people, too few finite resources (which are rapidly dwindling and disappearing). The equation is getting worse every passing month, as global oil extraction (and resource extraction in general) continues to decline, yet human population continues to exponentially increase. The day of reckoning aka collapse of industrial civilization is probably no more than 5 to 10 years away. Perhaps as little as 2 to 3 years away. NTHE is getting closer every passing day.

I came to the conclusion (10 to 15 years ago) that overpopulation is the root of most of the world’s problems. Maybe not the root of all the world’s problems. But an overwhelming majority of the world’s problems, that is for sure. Every problem from climate change (from industrial activity), deforestation, the extinction of wild life, plastic pollution (not to mention every other form of pollution), to mental illness (like schizophrenia and OCD), to physical illness (like dental decay and obesity), crime (like thief and child molestation), environmental degradation (like soil erosion and pandemic diseases), war and genocide, famine and food shortages, resource depletion (like peak oil and the shortage of every other conceivable natural resource), etc…most of these fatal problems of humanity are directly or indirectly caused by overpopulation. Don’t you agree?

You got to keep in mind that regardless of how our economic system operates, when you have 8 billion + people on this planet (growing by more than 200,000 people each and everyday), the collapse of industrial civilization becomes an inevitability. Like I said before, global agricultural yields can no longer keep up with human population growth…and this has been the case since (at least) as far back as the early 1990s. Obviously, there is enormous wealth disparity between the rich and poor. But even when you ignore that reality, it is still obvious that there are way too many people on this planet. And too few finite and nonrenewable resources (which are rapidly running out) to sustain that said human population for much longer. The people on the left that deny (or de-emphasis) on overpopulation are deluding themselves. They pretend that there is an “abundance” of resources for the global human population, and they think capitalism is the cause of ecological destruction. They dismiss “Neo Malthusianism” as “racist” or “pro-capitalist” or “elitist”. No, stating the reality of human overpopulation, and the severity of the problem, is simply stating the reality of there being too many humans, and the fundamental unsustainability of Homo Sapiens. Blaming capitalism for ecological destruction is rather misleading. Because humans have been destroying the planet’s biosphere long before the advent of capitalism/the Industrial Revolution. Humans have been destroying the planet’s biosphere even before the advent of agriculture and the first civilizations. But the advent of agriculture and the development of civilization was the turning point for the planetary biosphere. Since the inception of the first civilizations, the large-scale destruction of the planetary biosphere began. And this was long before the rise of capitalism/the Industrial Revolution.

You got to keep in mind that climate change is simply a symptom of civilization. And overpopulation is also another symptom of the root problem, which is human civilization. As long as civilization continues to exist, the human population will continue to exponentially grow, and the other problems (like climate change, wild life extinctions, poverty, crime, war and environmental destruction) will only grow in severity until human civilization does finally end for good. Overpopulation is simply a symptom of the root problem, which is human civilization. There is NO SOLUTION to the overpopulation problem, because the root problem (which is human civilization) cannot be solved without collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE finally occuring (which will happen soon enough). There is no way for the governments to “solve” civlization’s problems because civilization is the ROOT PROBLEM to begin with. Any political tactics to “combat” overpopulation, environmental degradation, climate change and etc are totally futile because there is no way you can fix a fundamentally corrupt and unfair system aka human civilization.

There is alot of misinformation circulating on the Internet about how human population is “declining” due to “low birth rates”. This is all fucking bullshit. If that is true, then how come global human population is still growing at an astonishing 200,000+ people each and everyday? 7,500,000+ extra people added onto this planet each and every month. Every month the Earth’s human population is growing by the size of New York City’s population. Over two Canada’s worth of extra people (90,000,000 people) added each year around the globe. And there is this another myth about how “well-educated” and “wealthy” people are not “reproducing”…what a bunch of bullshit…I see the wealthy people breeding just as frantically as the poor people. The wealthy are breeding just as quickly as the poor. The overpopulation deniers are coming up with every lame excuse to deny the obvious reality of human overpopulation. And the inevitable consequences of overpopulation.
Here is bottom line…maybe the REAL REASON for near-term human extinction isn’t climate change? Maybe the REAL REASON is OVERPOPULATION. And the fact that NTHE is right on the horizon, as global oil extraction continues to rapidly decline into the foreseeable future. The truth be told is that industrial civilization is 100% dependent on fossil fuels for LITERALLY EVERYTHING. And this is why the realities of OVERPOPULATION and PEAK OIL are vehemently denied by the government. Because our global human population will quickly go extinct when fossil fuel extraction drops too low to maintain the global supply chains. Why is the price of food skyrocketing right now? It is simple. OVERPOPULATION and the RAPIDLY DEPLETING, NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES that sustains our oversized and rapidly-growing human population. I already suspect that global, Malthusian famine is less than 5 to 10 years away. I doubt that there will be a single human on Earth in another 20 to 30 years from now.

Here is something for people to consider…the per capita resource consumption of someone living in the 21st century might not be any greater than someone living in the Stone Age, Middle Ages or some previous historical era. Someone living in the 21st century might have the same ecological impact (per capita) as someone living 1,000 or 2,000 years ago. Maybe, just maybe, the PRIMARY and REAL CAUSE for the massive increase in resource consumption and environmental destruction (in recent decades and centuries) might be due to OVERPOPULATION? Blaming rich and over-priveleged people for “overconsumption” is ignoring (or denying) the catastrophic impact that our absolutely, enormous global human population has on the environment. Blaming rich people for environmental destruction (while ignoring the environmental impact of the poor) is rather misleading. Especially when you consider that over 50% all of the land on Earth is used just for agriculture alone. In other words, most of the land on Earth is just used for the sole purpose of growing food for our comically-overpopulated human species. The other industrial activities (like the mining of metals and minerals, fossil fuel extraction and forestry) take up relatively little land (and thus has relatively little ecological impact) compared to the NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF PLANETARY ECOCIDE…which is, of course, agriculture and food production. And the difference in food consumption between the poor and rich isn’t as great as one might expect. Sure, you can argue that a rich person might consume more food than a poor person per capita. But that difference is marginal (at best). The rich might consume more of certain resources than the poor (per capita)…like fossil fuels, mineral/metal ores and wood. But the primary ecological impact (aka food consumption) between the rich and poor might not be as great as one thinks. If you think that poor countries (like Sudan and Mali) are not destroying planetary ecosystems, then you are greatly mistaken. Poor countries are doing an equally good job at destroying the planet’s ecosystems (as developed countries), despite “third world” countries supposedly consuming less resources per capita than “developed” countries. “Third world” countries (like Mali, Sudan and Somalia) are destroying planetary ecosystems just as efficiently as “developed” countries (like Canada and the USA).

Just FYI, the USA had less than 100 million people in the 1920s. By the time you were born (in 1949), the USA’s population was almost at 150 million people. By the early 1970s, it reached 200 million people. By 2000, it reached 300 million people. By the 2020s, it is almost at 400 million people. And even though many young adults are not reproducing, the breeders, who are still in their reproductive years (i.e. late teens/early 20s to mid 40s), are reproducing more than fast enough to make up for the people who aren’t reproducing. Hence, global human population is still exponentially growing and skyrocketing. Btw, I saw this woman with 4 offspring in the shopping mall today…and she was already pregnant with her 5th offspring (about to be born in another month or two). Her oldest child was no more than 10 years old. And the mother was no more than 30 years old. And I saw many, many 20s and 30s old year old adults with 2 or more offspring at the shopping mall today in Canada. And they claim that global human population is “declining” due to “low birth rates”. That is an absolutely false claim. Even if less than 50% of young adults/women never have offspring, the less than 50% of young adults, that have offspring, are still frantically reproducing. Many women (under the age of 40) have at least 3 to 4 offspring. So much for human population “declining” due to “low birth rates”. Humans are NOT going extinct from lack of reproduction. Maybe, just maybe, the primary cause of NTHE might be overpopulation, and the fact that global human population is still frantically and uncontrollably growing by 90 million extra people each and every year? Btw, if civilization is still around by 2040, the global human population will be (at least) 9 billion people by then.

Michael Ruppert said that getting into finanicial debt is a very bad idea…especially when industrial civilization’s end is not-too-far-away from now. Nobody knows the exact date when NTHE happens. But before its arrival, getting one’s self into debt will make one’s life unbelievably miserable. Especially with the increasing price of food (and other industrial goods)…meaning that one’s ability to pay off debt is decreasing because they now must spend a much larger percentage of their income on food (and other necessities). But the global capitalist economy must fool the masses into getting into debt…in order to generate profit for the global elites by encouraging people to get into debt, to keep on consuming…consuming in order to prevent complete and permanent economic collapse. But this is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain because peak oil (and resource depletion in general) makes the cost of goods (especially that of food) go up…therefore the price of goods goes up. But people’s wages are unable to increase…meaning people have less ability to consume goods…meaning the global economy starts to contract. I am willing to bet that the price of food will be EVEN MUCH HIGHER than right now by the end of this year. The price of food will keep on increasing, until the global supply chains permanently collapse, and collapse of industrial civilization/NTHE does finally arrive. This means the world’s poor people will starve even more than before. Even when food was relatively “abundant” and “cheap” 5 to 10 years ago, the world’s poor were already starving from the lack of money to buy food. Now with the price of food perpeutally increasing, more and more people will be starving. The increasing price of food is not because of “inflation”…it is because global food production is already declining. Yet the population of humans on this planet (and thus the demand for food) continues to rapidly increase. And in order to maintain profit margins as food production perpeutally declines, food prices must go up. This is not “inflation”…this is really just “price gouging”.

You do realize that capitalism a social construct of human civilization? Just like how God/religion is a social construct? “The invisible hand of the free market” is not a law of nature. It is a social construct, used by Patriarchy aka “powerful male rulers” to control the masses. Capitalism is “beneficial” for mankind? Sure, it is beneficial for the ruling class for controlling the masses. But for the masses, capitalism is a curse. Capitalism is USURY. It is an infinite-growth, pyramid scheme designed to exploit the masses as effiienctly as possible…to generate as much profit as possible. Pre-capitalist civilizations did have money , markets and profits. The main “innovation” of capitalism is that it has allowed large-scale, factory-based assembly lines off of extracting “surplus value” from the labour of others…thus allowing for an enormous increase in the productivity of human labour. Now, the end result is that we have too many humans on this planet, and even way too much stuff being produced…yet too few people with the money to buy all this excess stuff. The only “solution” for simulating “demand” aka consumption of all this excess stuff being produced? Have people burrow money from banks to consume more stuff than their meager incomes would otherwise allow. And if the people with debt cannot pay their debts back? Simple: imprison or kill them. Don’t worry, there is a never-ending supply of consumers able to replace one dead consumer. For every dead consumer, there are ten new potential consumers ready to join the global capitalist pyramid scheme. Overpopulation makes sure that there is no shortage of suckers to exploit for global capitalism. Of course, this pyramid scheme will eventually collapse when we run out of the ability to extract anymore/sufficient amounts of resources out of the Earth’s crust. And this collapse will, probably, result in NTHE.

Yes humanity screwed up. But none the less there are times that debt is a good thing. For example we took out a loan to buy a house. Our long term interest rate is around 1%. Yet the rate of inflation is much higher than that. So essentially we are getting paid by the bank to burrow money. Also our house is useful. If we have money problems we can try to get roommates which will help us cover the costs of living.
Also credit card companies also often have special offers. You can borrow money at no interest or low interest for 6 months. If you can pay back what you owe in 6 months you have gotten yourself a good deal.
In addition to that, in the United States, buying and quickly reselling houses has been a good business for decades. Borrowing money for this purpose is an essential tactic to employ when one is flipping houses.
Of course it is not neccessary to tell me that flipping houses is an intergral part of the overall pyramid scheme. But if a person has the training to make use of this tactic they should have been doing it all along because one has to be able to survive in the rat race to be able to try to change the course of the rat race.
Now we can speak about that in the past tense as the course soon takes us over Viagra Falls.

There is no way to “stabilize” human population, because the longer we delay the collapse of industrial civilization, the greater the human population will become. Human population growth cannot be stopped, as long as industrial civilization continues to exist. Of course, global human population growth will eventually stop, but that will only happen when collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE happens. Anyone saying that human population is going to “decline” from “low birth rates” is delusional or stupid. Look 300,000 + people are born every 24 hours on this planet. Everyday, the number of people dying is only 60,000 people. Meaning the global human population is still growing by 250,000 extra people every 24 hours. There are many people promoting the myth of “low birth rates” leading to the “decline” of human population. Apparently, these morons think that the world would become a “better” place if more humans are crammed onto this planet. Overpopulation denialism is becoming more common these days. I guess the main reason for this denial is that many (if not most) people don’t want to accept the reality of NTHE.

I drove a family member from Kitchener, Ontario to an international airport in Toronto earlier today. The trip required over 200 km of driving (from Kitchener to Toronto and back to Kitchener). And my dad consumed even more fossil fuels riding an airliner from Toronto to Philadelphia. And then I drive to the airport next Tuesday to pick him up. Thus consuming even more fossil fuels and emitting even more CO2. So me and my family are doing our good share of depleting fossil fuels and emitting CO2 to move humanity towards NTHE.

Like we discussed many times already, the price of goods (especially that of food) is skyrocketing…yet people’s wages are the same as they were 10 to 15 years ago…or any perceived increases in wages is very small, especially compared to the dramatic increases in the price of goods/food. In other words, people are getting poorer and poorer. None of the mainstream economic theories can explain why this is the case because they are all based on the false assumption that the Earth’s natural resources are infinite and inexhaustiable. Therefore, these false economic theories assume that economic growth can continue forever. These false theories all ignore the reality of resource depletion, overpopulation and environmental degradation. The REAL REASON for why the price of goods/food is skyrocketing (and wages are unable to increase anymore) is because there are simply TOO FUCKING MANY PEOPLE on this planet, and the Earth is rapidly RUNNING OUT of the FINITE and NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES necessary to sustain the excess human population any longer. I strongly suspect that the collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE is less than 20 to 30 years away. Maybe not NTHE by 2026 or 2030 (or some other specific date), but humanity’s extinction is drawing very close (geologically-speaking). It is arriving closer every passing day.
The evidence for NTHE is simply OVERWHELMING. If NTHE isn’t gonna happen, then why the fuck are the 8,000,000,000+ fucking humans on this planet fundamentally incapable of existing on this planet without IRREPAIRABLY destroying the planet’s natural biosphere? Maybe, just maybe, the reason is because humanity is a CANCER and DISEASE on this planet that cannot exist without destroying the natural world. And that the human population will continue to grow until it collapses from overpopulation, resource depletion and environmental degradation? And then humans go extinct.

Regardless of when NTHE happens, one thing is for certain: poverty, crime, environmental degradation, and overpopulation will continue to worsen and grow into the future. The number of alcoholics, drug addicts, gamblers, pornographers/rapists and other criminals and degenerates will only grow in number as time goes by. For old people nearing the end of their lives, it may not matter to them, but their children and grandchildren will definitely horribly suffer, as industrial civilization continues to decline/decay. Anyone, born post 1980, is already condemned to a grim world. Anyone, born after 2000, will be condemned to an even more grim world than their parents or older siblings. I see alot of youth in elementary, middle and high school, and I can’t imagine the hell they are already going through…and the even more hellish future they will be condemned to after they reach the age of 18. And they have little to no social safety net to fall back to, unemployment, poverty, fiananical debt, drug/alcohol addiction, have STDs and unwanted pregnancies (from poor sexual behaviors), and the rest of the misery of modern civilization.

Even though oil extraction already peaked/is already in perpeutal decline, the collapse of industrial civilization/NTHE may not happen as quickly as some people “predicted”. Simply put, the demand destruction of oil (caused by the inability to grow the economy anymore) will reduce the demand for oil (and other finite and nonrenewable resources), which could delay the CoIC/NTHE by a good number of years. However, even the demand destruction of oil cannot delay the CoIC/NTHE indefinitely into the future. Because while demand for oil may decrease (due to lack of economic growth), the demand for food will continue to increase, due to the exponentially, increasing human population. Even though oil demand could continue to be reduced by fewer people driving cars, the demand for food will continue to grow…and as we should already know, food production is 100% dependent on fossil fuels/oil. Peak oil (and resource depletion in general) and climate change is already starting to decrease food production, yet human population continues to skyrocket. And there is no way we can sustain food production without fossil fuels. Meaning as oil extraction continues to decline indefinitely into the future, the ability to produce and distribute adequete food supplies for our growing human population continues to decline…I can guranatee you that the skyrocketing price of food is primarily caused by peak oil. And it is an omnious sign that global famine is very, very near…and that NTHE is unavoidable at this point.

It is pretty obvious that human overpopulation is at the root of the world’s problems. Overpopulation is not a problem of how much space there is available on the planet for humans to occupy. It is a problem of how much resources it takes to sustain the enormous human population of this planet. Yeah, you can fit all 8 billion of the Earth’s human population into the relatively “small” island of Taiwan, if each human was standing shoulder-to-shoulder to each other…occupying only 1 square meter of space. Yeah, you could theoretically fit 8 trillion people on this planet, if each human was standing shoulder-to-shoulder to each other…each human occupying just one square meter of space. Of course, humans need much more than just a place to sit and squat to exist. Just to grow enough food for the 8 billion people on this planet requires an unbelievable amount of land and resources. Let alone providing water, shelter and clothing for 8 billion + people.

How’s free money capitalism working out for the disappearing middle class & the working poor?
“We remember with forever-amazement the huge direct payments to companies, such as the $50 billion that was handed in 2020 to the airlines, that ultimately wash through to income, and the $790 billion paid out in PPP loans, of which $757 billion were then forgiven, at which point they also became income. The magnificent spike in corporate profits from Q2 2020 through Q2 2022 is testimony to that largess.
But the profit spike is also testimony to the phenomenon of companies suddenly jacking up prices because they could, and they could because consumers and businesses, afloat in free money, were suddenly willing to pay whatever. Good times were had by all.
Now comes the hangover, with inflation, higher interest rates and funding costs, higher wages, and generally higher input costs, squeezed profits, and pressured revenues.”

The answer…pretend that peak oil isn’t real. They need to supress the reality of peak oil, because if too many people realized this reality, then the collapse might happen even sooner.

Obviously, technology cannot save mankind. It is pretty obvious (to any intelligent person) that industrial civilization is dependent on fossil fuels for literally everything…and there is nothing that can replace fossil fuels…fossil fuels are a finite and nonrenewable resource…and these fossil fuel resources are quickly running out. Like I mentioned before, all of the Earth’s finite and nonrenewable resources that humans depend on for survival (not just fossil fuels, but also mineral/metal ores and top soil…and literally every other conceivable natural resource) are located on the Earth’s relatively thin upper crust. And the deepest mines are no more than 3km to 4km deep (at most). We are just a few years away from the complete collapse of industrial civilization and NTHE…I doubt there will be a single human alive on this planet by the mid-21st century. And there is absolutely NOTHING ANYONE can do to save humanity from near-term extinction (NTE). Overpopulation is the elephant in the room. And then, there is, of course, also the fact that virtually all of the resources humans depend on for survival are finite and nonrenewable…these resources, which are quickly running out.

Apparently, many people don’t seem to understand how money works…they don’t seem to understand how the global capitalist economy works. Like many wise people have said before “profit governs everything. You make money while the economy is growing. And you also make money from the collapse of industrial civilization (up until NTHE happens).”” This also applies to global famine. As global food production continues to decline, that is yet another money-making opportunity. Food production going down means lower volumes of food can be sold to the masses…but capitalists simply just raise the price of food (to maintain or even grow profits). Which is exactly what is happening right now. Global famine is just the perfect opportunity to raise food prices for more profit-making. What is this nonsense about “inflation”? If money is becoming less valuable, then why is the price of only certain goods increasing? While the price of other goods is not increasing? The price of worthless consumer junk–like computers and smartphones–was the same as it was 5 to 10 years ago before so-called “runaway inflation” started happening. No, it isn’t inflation. It is simply price gouging.

The real irony is that human extinction’s root cause is humanity’s greed, hubris and denial. That AI, “renewable” energy, and smart cities crap won’t do jack shit to save humanity from NTE. Because when fossil fuel extraction drops too low to maintain the global supply chains, NTHE becomes inevitable. Not to mention the depletion of other finite and nonrenewable resources (like top soil and mineral/metal ores, to name a few of the many), which will render this “renewable” energies and “smart” technologies crap worthless when the global supply chains permanently collapse. The more technological “progress” we make, ironically, the closer we progress towards NTE. Humanity is doomed…we cannot revert back to more “primitive” technologies (like sail ships, horse-drawn carts and stone castles) because earlier civilizations were not sustainable/ecologically-friendly either. And we cannot replace fossil fuels or keep on making technological “progress” anymore…there is no “solution” to mankind’s fundamental problems of overpopulation/population overshoot. There is really just one logical outcome and conclusion to humanity’s predicament…that is collapse of industrial civilization and near term human extinction.

Btw, I don’t want to point out the obvious…but modern, industrial agriculture is much less sustainable than more “primitive” agriculture (for many reasons). Under capitalism, farmers are mere workers…that are entirely dependent on their wages to buy food from the market place. In more primitive times i.e. during the time of substinence agriculture, farmers could actually consume some of the food they grew…and farmers weren’t so completely dependent on wages/monetary transactions to survive. Under modern industrial capitalism, we don’t have substinence farmers anymore. Modern farmers don’t eat any of the food they grow. All of the food they grow is sold onto the market place to other people…and the farmers themselves are entirely dependent on their wages to buy commodities on the market…especially that of food. Just like all of the other citizens of industrial capitalism. Everyone is now 100% dependent on wages these days, including our so-called “farmers”.

No matter how fucked up things become almost all humans will continue to use as much energy as their ladder rung affords them. Free will is a powerful illusion, but we are all slaves to evolution & thermodynamics. The humans are just along for the ride.
The destruction of the natural world is not the result of global capitalism, industrialisation, “Western civilisation” or any flaw in human institutions. It is a consequence of the evolutionary success of an exceptionally rapacious primate. Throughout all of history and prehistory, human advance has coincided with ecological devastation. — John Gray
“The single most-important lesson for me was that we cannot re-wire (literally, because thought is physical[1]) our basic political agendas through reading or discussion alone. Moreover, since our thoughts are subject to physical law, we do not have the free-will to either think or behave autonomously.
We are “political” animals from birth until death. Everything we do or say can be seen as part of lifelong political agendas. Despite decades of scientific warnings, we continue to destroy our life-support system because that behavior is part of our inherited (DNA, RNA, etc.) hard wiring. We use scientific warnings, like all inter-animal communications, for cementing group identity and for elevating one’s own status (politics).
Only physical hardship can force us to rewire our collective-political agendas. I am certainly not the first to make the observation, but now, after 25 years of study and debate, I am totally certain. The “net energy principle” guarantees that our global supply lines will collapse.
The rush to social collapse cannot be stopped no matter what is written or said. Humans have never been able to intentionally-avoid collapse because fundamental system-wide change is only possible after the collapse begins.”

And yes, it is obvious that humans are overreproducing and overconsuming, just like how their genetic make-up dictates. Stating what is at the root of the problems doesn’t mean there is actually a solution to that said problem. Of course, we usually think that a “solution” means keeping business-as-usual going indefinitely into the future…rather than saving the natural world. It would be foolish to say that we can save nature, especially at this point. Nature is already doomed at this point. Now, it is just a matter of time before collapse of industrial civilization/NTHE happens. And I don’t expect very many organisms surviving beyond the extinction of mankind. It is a miracle that we still haven’t caused the extinction of every large vertebrate organism yet. But it is very obvious that very few “wild” animals exist in 2023…and it is a miracle that any still exist in 2023. Don’t worry…they will soon all be gone once CoIC/NTHE happens…we will make sure they all get eaten by the 8,000,000,000+ humans when the global supply chains collapse.
