The Fruition of ‘Silent Spring’
I was aware that there are 80,000 chemicals being used today with 2,000 new ones introduced by industry each year into the environment, but this video helps emphasize the point. No long-term testing has been done for the health and environmental effects of these manmade chemicals.
Plasticizing the Planet
As with CO2 pollution, humans do first and then live with the consequences later. Plastics? Fugetaboutit!!! Plastics are becoming as ubiquitous as humans on the planet. I recently started taking plastic bags with me to pick up the trash I see at Sedona’s world-famous Oak Creek Canyon. Without much effort I find lots of plastic ranging from pill bottles to coat hangers. Humans are truly “sullying the nest” beyond repair.
Mercury Overload
And we all know there is a limit on seafood consumption due to mercury poisoning, but I did not grasp how deep the problem was until I read this article today. Looks like humans have been overloading the environment with the stuff long before the industrial revolution. Click on the snippet to go to the full article:
Throw nuclear waste into today’s toxic environmental soup and the physiologic evolution of man would be a freak show of the first order if it were allowed to play out, but I really don’t think things will hold up long enough for us to witness that grotesque transmutation…
With high levels of autism and various other antisocial behavior manifesting in ‘modern’ society, the maladaptive environment produced by toxins of industrial civilization is a destructive end in and of itself. Some claim lead poisoning lead to the decline of the Roman Empire. Similarly, I can clearly state that capitalist industrial civilization is going mad from a flood of poisonous chemicals.
Collapse of Industrial Civilization 
Not content with their daily doses of environmental pollution, many choose to poison themselves via cigarette smoking, ingesting foods high in fructose, sniffing solvents etc.
And many municipalities still put [toxic] fluoride into drinking water.
The death by a thousand cuts imposed by ‘the controllers’ continues, with some people flailing themselves.
Humans are such odd creatures.
It is a plausible hypothesis that the insanity of most humans living in industrial societies is being augmented by accumulated poisons they have been ingesting.
Mike, another aspect of this you could look at is the malformation of fish and amphibians, and even polar bears, attributed to hormone mimics and developmental disruptors in the general environment.
By the way, the human male capacity to produce viable sperm has been falling for decades, and will eventually reach a critical level. So nature is in the process of fixing the heart of the problem. Additionally, a general perception there is no hope is undoubtedly a huge factor in the very low birth rate of Japan, now down to about 1.3 per woman, I believe.

life formmoney. Priority One. All other priorities rescinded.“All other priorities rescinded,” I think that’s a succinct summation of human “life” on planet Earth, today. Everyone here and at NBL and Climate Progress and Grist and Climate Central, etc., etc, are merely tilting at windmills.

Great article, Mike, and with such poignant videos. For nigh on two decades I have been telling “friends,” family, acquaintances, anyone who stood still long enough about the inherent dangers embodied in “better living through chemistry.” Alas, the responses have always been derision, disbelief, ridicule and, eventually, ostracism. While the information you present correctly states that most of the chemicals with which humans contact/inhale/ingest/absorb on a daily basis have not been tested, it may be of greater significance that the myriad of possible combinations (i.e., chemical reactions) internalized haven’t even been thought about by most people. How often have you (anyone) entered a room or walked down a hallway and could still smell the perfume/cologne of a person who had been there, even just briefly, an hour or more earlier? Is that not some form of “chemical warfare?” I think it is absolutely correct to presume that the cornucopia of chemical reactions taking place in the “human
bodylaboratory” have indeed driven the bulk of the population quite insane. At the risk of repeating myself I ask, “Given a choice, would you rather be the only sane person in an otherwise insane population OR the only insane person in a sane population? How could you determine which condition prevails?” Personally, I have come to find nearly endless amusement in the accelerating extinction of homo sapiens sapiens.LikeLike
